We’ve adopted a tiny dynamo wrapped in gray fur passing herself off as a innocent little kitten. We found her on Twitter, well rather, she found us. I use Twitter for my business and last week one of the people I follow there posted a picture of her. She was the offspring of a feral mama cat who chose to have her kittens in the warehouse of this persons place of business. The minute I saw the picture I was lost. We picked her up last week and she now is ruling our small kingdom with a furry paw. It took us a few days to name her, as I consulted my son, here with me for the moment and my daughter still living in Maine. We finally settled on Fiona, as in Fi from the short lived Disney cult classic “So Weird”, but we agreed that she also reminded us of the kick ass princess from Shrek. So Fiona it is.

It’s really easy to let her get away with things because she’s so cute. Like climbing my jeans leg to make it into my lap while I’m working. Except, when the weather turned warm and I wore shorts….yeah, not so pleasant. Still, she’s been a source of entertainment and lots of soft, furry snuggling. Definitely the perfect addition to the family.

Is it possible for business to be great, but finances to be difficult? I’m living proof it can. My business, and my name, are becoming well known within my industry as well as several others. I’ve been pegged as the ‘Twitter’ marketing girl and have done several interviews, both for online articles and print magazines. I’m embarking on being an integral part of not one, but two high profile membership teaching sites, have been asked to do a short presentation on what I do for a local company and have responded to four potential new clients that seemed excited about what I could do for them. Sounds great doesn’t it? It is, it really is…I just wish it would translate into a bit more $$ coming in every month. It feels like I’ve spent my entire life pinching pennies, or like now, not just pinching them, but squeezing every last bit of penny goodness out of them. I’m not asking for wealth untold, just some breathing room so I can do the things I need to do.

Like inspect and license my car here. And purchase a couch and chair instead of worrying if the old daybed I’m using as a sofa now is going to collapse the next time someone sits on it. You know, stuff like that?

All in all, things are grand in the castle. I take the boy child to the airport on Monday to spend a few weeks up north with the family. I’m supposed to be heading up that way for a wedding at the end of June, but can’t quite justify the plane ticket, etc. when my car is still running around with Maine plates. So maybe, within the next week or so, all of this good publicity will transfer into some good money? A girl can only hope. After all whoever heard of a penniless princess??

I will be moving back to North Carolina the first weekend in April. I’ve found a cozy little condominium that I will call home, very close to Hickory, NC. Sometimes the speed with which my life changes shocks me. In a good way. Just last week I wasn’t sure if I’d be moving or staying put in Richmond. It wasn’t that I didn’t know that I wanted to be in North Carolina, it was just that, well, staying put just seemed easier at the time. Isn’t that the way? And isn’t that why so many people wake up down the road and realize they never did follow their dreams?

I’m following mine. My business, my new location… what’s next on the horizon? Perhaps a new love to share it all with?

I admit it, I’ve gotten hooked on Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series of books. What can I say, ever since Angel stole my heart on Buffy I’ve had a soft spot for ‘good’ vampires torn between love and blood lust. This series is no exception. Sure, it may have been originally written for teenagers, but Harry Potter was a kids book too right? So it’s not so weird I was drawn into this fantasy world as well. I was always a sucker for a fantasy. Heck, I even fell for the ‘white picket fence’ one once. Oh, and then there was the “I’m going to leave her for you” fantasy. See? I told you. Sucker. Back to the vampires. The ones I’ve been reading about and yes, saw on the big screen last night are stuff of imagination. But don’t let that fool you, there are real life vampires. And they are scarier and more insidious than the ones found between the pages of a book.

Take my former landlord as an example. He told me I’d been an excellent tenant. He praised how little he paid in heating fuel due to my diligence at keeping the thermostat set at a reasonable temp and throwing on a sweater when I felt a bit chilly. My parents and I vaccuumed, scrubbed and cleaned the day I moved my stuff out of the apartment. He even told me the place was in good shape…until today when he sent an itemized list of things giving him a reason to keep my security deposit. Burn holes in the carpet due to smoking? Umm no. No smoking in my apartment, never, ever. Scratches on the kitchen floor? Sure, caused by chairs being pushed and pulled up to a table. Normal wear and tear. Leaving the place dirty?? Now you’re insulting me and my Mom, who helped me clean the place those last few days. Was I surprised. Hell no. He was angry that I gave my one month notice in the fall, stating that he’d have a hard time renting the place. I knew he’d come up with reasons to ‘have’ to keep the security deposit. It just ticks me off that I tried so hard to do everything the right way and still ended up getting screwed out of that damned security deposit. Oh and did he fail to recall that my son broke his back in April due to the collapse of an outside staircase that HE was supposed to maintain? You’d think he wouldn’t want to do anything to piss me off right?

Don’t think vampires are real? Go find my former landlord…his fangs are most definitely showing.
